Having said goodbye to Bikaner on our 6-Nights Heritage of India tour with the Maharajas Express Luxury Train, it is now time to proceed to one of the largest and most fascinating cities of Rajasthan, and also its commercial capital – Jaipur.

Built in 1727 AD by Sawai Jai Singh II, Jaipur is the first planned city of India under the renowned architect, Vidyadhar Bhattacharya. As you travel through its main streets, you will notice how the buildings and shops are lined up, one next to the other with uniform facades and well-labelled panels, showcasing glimpses of urban planning.

Famously known as India’s Pink City due to the prominent pink colour visible on its monuments and buildings, Jaipur is a soulful celebration of all things Indian including silver jewellery, textiles, fabrics and some of the most mouthwatering local delicacies.

In addition to its cultural heritage and legacy of valour, Jaipur is home to some of the most awe-inspiring architectural wonders that date back to several centuries and portray exemplary craftsmanship while serving heartwarming reminders of an amalgamation of the Rajput, Mughal and Western architectural styles.

It is because of these reasons that the city of Jaipur has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in July, this year – the second Indian city, after Ahmedabad to receive such a huge honour.
